Years ago… My partners Cigdem, Sami in those days and myself, were sitting in the office of Sami one late evening. We had started a new business and decided to be one of the few producers of coloured bathroom accessories in the world. We had made our own designs, and were about to conquer the whole world. Only, the world was not aware of this yet.☺
We were still in the investment phase and were discussing our budget. One of us said, “More money is needed.” We took out our wallets and put whatever we had in them on the table. Although the gathered amount was ridiculously small, we were very serious in our intentions.
For me and Cigdem this new business meant leaving behind a job with a good salary and embarking on an adventure. I was the leader of the team launching the first U-PVC window frames in Turkey. The future could have been very bright in that sector, as it was proved to be later in time. So what was the motive that drove us to collect money at evenings?
In the song I Want To Break Free Queen says, “I don’t need you / I’ve got to break free.” And he continues: “I’ve fallen in love for the first time.” We had fallen in love with the excitement of what we could accomplish.
As a result of this love we exported our products to many countries. I still have some samples. They are still shining after so many years as witnesses of an achievement financed by monies collected at evenings, cent by cent.
