From various Internet pages:
“The American Serena Williams, currently world’s No.1 woman tennis player, will be the overwhelming favorite in the first semi-final when she takes to the court in the US OPEN 2015 against first time Grand Slam semi-finalist Roberta Vinci from Italy. On paper this is the ultimate mismatch.”
“Serena holds a perfect 4-0 head-to-head record over the Italian, all four victories were in straight sets and all were quite comfortable. Vinci played a quality match against Serena in Toronto last month, and gave her some trouble with her one-handed slice backhand in 70’s style.”
“It’s almost impossible to see this match resulting in anything other than a straight set victory for Serena. At this stage of a Grand Slam, the American is usually unbeatable and is a couple of classes above the Italian.”
“Prediction: Williams should be far too strong and will progress to the final in 2 straight sets.”
Result of the game: The 43rd-ranked Italian won 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.
One of my clients is selling more machines to various markets in the world than his powerful and big competitors. He does that even by using 70’s technology, which is much more resilient to the harsh conditions in those markets compared with his competitors’ up-to-date technology.
Do not be afraid of market leading companies. As they grow, they lose their flexibility and want to offer one size for all. Taking the local differences into account, they can be beaten quite easily. Even with 70’s technology.
“I’m sorry for the American people, for Serena, the Grand Slam, everything… but today is my day,” Vinci said to the spectators in the after match interview. “I’m proud of myself, my fight and my game.”
